Philosophy of Education in Brazil: Paulo Freire’s criti- cal pedagogy
Abstract
The article is devoted to critical pedagogy developed by Paulo Freire, Brazilian educational theorist and pedagogue. The critical pedagogy’s essential principles (problem-oriented education, anthropological view of culture, a person’s humanity, critical consciousness, the model of a teacher) have been shown. It is stressed that critical pedagogy has much in common with I. Shor’s «empowering education», H. Giroux’s «border pedagogy» and gender/feminist pedagogies.
