The paper deals with contemporary Polish philosophy of education/philosophical pedagogy in the context of cultural changes that took place in the humanities. The Polish traditions of philosophical pedagogy reach at least the time of romanticism and greatly affect the state of the contemporary reflection. Analysis of the main concepts leads to the conviction of an ambiguity and chaos in this area. To demonstrate the changes that took place in this field in XX – XXI century the author used the comparative analysis, that permitted to examine two diametrically opposite concepts of Polish teachers, philosophers of education: B. Sukhodolskyi and J. Gnitetskyi. They pointed not only at connections of pedagogy with external for it sociopolitical conditions but also at the development of its own concepts in the context of central (for each era) humanities streams. At the end of the article, the author formulated his own understanding of the importance of philosophical pedagogy.
