The author examines S. Baley’s philosophical and pedagogical ideas. She marked out his main positions: involving personality to the process of self-cognition and selfcreation,
interpretation of education as a personal dialogue with reality, actualization of the facilitator’s functions for teachers. These conclusions are the bases for reviewing
the well-established approach in modern pedagogy to interpretation of education and its subjects. The perspectives of a new understanding are outlined.
